Soil Bacterial and Fungal Richness and Network Exhibit Different Responses to Long-Term Throughfall Reduction in a Warm-Temperate Oak Forest

چکیده
Prolonged drought results in serious ecological consequences forest ecosystems, particularly for soil microbial communities. However, much is unknown about communities their response to long-term consecutive droughts warm-temperate forests. Here, we conducted a 7-year manipulated throughfall reduction experiment (TFR) examine the responses of bacterial and fungal terms richness networks. Our show that TFR reduced bacterial, but not fungal, richness, with rare taxa being more sensitive than dominant taxa. The network under treatment featured simpler structure fewer competitive links compared control, implying weakened interactions among species. Bacterial genes involved xenobiotic biodegradation metabolism, lignin-degrading enzymes were enhanced treatment, which may be attributed TFR-induced increases fine root biomass turnover. indicate are responsive fungi oak forest, leading potential such as degradation recalcitrant organics soil.

Nitrogen fertilization decreases forest soil fungal and bacterial biomass in three long-term experiments
We examined the effects of N fertilization on forest soil fungal and bacterial biomass at three long-term experiments in New England (Harvard Forest, MA; Mt. Ascutney, VT; Bear Brook, ME). At Harvard Forest, chronic N fertilization has decreased organic soil microbial biomass C (MBC) by an average of 54% and substrate induced respiration (SIR) was decreased by an average of 45% in hardwood stan...

Soil microbial communities play an important role in forest ecosystem functioning, but how climate change will affect the community composition and consequently bacterial functions is poorly understood. We assessed the effects of reduced precipitation with the aim of simulating realistic future drought conditions for one growing season on the bacterial community and its relation to soil propert...
متن کاملSoil moisture variability in a temperate deciduous forest: insights from electrical resistivity and throughfall data
In deciduous forests, soil moisture is an important driver of numerous physical, microbial, and biogeochemical processes. Therefore, characterizing the interactions between vegetation and soil moisture is critical to forecast long-term water resources and ecosystem health. However, these interactions are difficult to measure, both in time and space. Recent studies have shown the ability of elec...
